Anthony "Tony" Turner, PFD Retired
Board Chair Tony Turner is a retired safety and emergency management professional with extensive experience in hazardous materials management, disaster response, fire safety, and emergency medical services. He brings a calm, practical perspective to board leadership and serves with a commitment to integrity, preparedness, and community care. Tony is also the spouse of CHC’s founder and executive director.

Dr. Ouida Powe
Board Secretary Ouida Powe is an educator and student-success leader whose career was inspired by the transformative impact of a school counselor. She has served as a high school counselor, college advisor, admissions officer, scholarship program coordinator, and instructor, and is deeply committed to expanding access, retention, and degree completion for first-generation and underrepresented students.

Lloyd Gray
Board Member Lloyd Gray is a community leader, mentor, and coach with more than three decades of service to individuals and families across Charlottesville and Albemarle County. A native of Nelson County and a graduate of the University of Virginia, he is the CEO of J.R. Adult and Youth Mentoring, where he leads programs supporting youth and adults navigating crisis and life transitions. Lloyd has also coached high school and college basketball for more than 30 years.

Valerie Gregory
Founding Board Member Valerie Gregory is a retired Associate Dean of Admission at the University of Virginia with a distinguished career in education and student development. She also served as an elementary school principal, bringing a lifelong commitment to education that spans K–12 and higher education, with deep insight into student success, family engagement, and systems of support.

Rasheda Tripp
Board Member Rasheda Tripp is a devoted wife, proud mother of two sons, and dedicated community member who leads her life with purpose and integrity. She is a licensed architect, project manager, and executive assistant who thrives in the tension of the overall picture and execution of details. Rasheda is passionate about empowering others, fostering collaboration, and strategic thinking.

We are deeply saddened to share the unexpected passing of Joseph Turner, a founding board member of Community Healing Coalition. Our dear brother passed away on March 3, 2026.
Joseph devoted more than three decades to strengthening individuals and families as a preventive health care specialist, educator, and coach. His work reflected a holistic vision of health and healing recognizing the deep connection between physical, emotional, and relational well-being.
Throughout his career, Joseph facilitated workshops, retreats, and coaching for men, women, couples, and families in both community and incarcerated settings. His work consistently reflected his belief that people deserve opportunities to grow, heal, and live fuller lives.
As a founding board member, Joseph helped shape the early vision of Community Healing Coalition. His commitment to service and his belief in healing and restoration helped lay the foundation for the work we continue today with families impacted by incarceration.
Those who knew Joseph remember his warmth, curiosity, and love of life. In recent years, he found particular joy in being a grandfather and sharing meaningful adventures with his family.
Joseph lived a life of service and care for others. His legacy continues through the many lives he touched and through the ongoing work of Community Healing Coalition.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones and remain grateful for the leadership and heart he shared with our community.

Our hearts are broken as we share the passing of Reverend Alonzo Paul Minor, a cherished Founding Board Member who entered eternal rest on March 30, 2026.
Reverend Minor lived a life marked by faith, service, and unwavering commitment to others. For more than two decades, he served as the devoted pastor of Bright Hope Baptist Church, and for many years as a chaplain at the Charlottesville - Albemarle Regional Jail, spaces where his steady presence, compassion, and quiet strength brought hope to countless lives.
As a founding board member, Reverend Minor helped shape not only the early vision of Community Healing Coalition, but also its spirit. He carried a deep belief in healing, restoration, and the power of community… values that continue to guide our work today. On a personal level, Reverend Minor was a covering, a voice of wisdom, and a grounding presence. When asked how he was doing, he would often say, “I can’t complain. God makes lemonade out of lemons.” And with a gentle smile, he might add that he was simply “picking ’em up and putting ’em down - one foot in front of the other.” Those words reflected how he lived - faithful, steady, and trusting God through every season.
We are grateful for the time we shared, for the foundation he helped lay, and for the example he set. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the community he helped build, and the work we will continue in his honor.
